Halifax – Michele Raymond, NDP MLA for Halifax Atlantic and NDP Critic for Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, is calling on the Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Barry Barnet, to provide information to Nova Scotian JetsGo customers left with worthless plane tickets after the airline’s bankruptcy last week.
“Mr. Barnet has a responsibility to reach out to Nova Scotians and tell them that they have rights in this situation, says Raymond. “This is what websites and other communication channels are for.
“Nova Scotia legislation provides some protection here, but you’d never know it by the deafening silence from Mr. Barnet.
Nova Scotia amended the Consumer Protection Act in 2001 to provide protection for purchases made over the internet, including a provision for consumers to request that credit card companies refund eligible purchases. Consumers also have the right to file a complaint with the province.
“It’s been four days and Nova Scotians haven’t heard a word. The Minister has dropped the ball on this one.
